Welcome to SNAPLAPSE! A game of two halves

Tim Platt • Jun 05, 2022

SNAPLAPSE! is an addictive game of symmetry based on time-lapsed videos of flowers blooming. Each collection of six flowers represents about 500 hours of time-lapse capture. Create beautiful multi-layered kaleidoscopic patterns and then try to match two halves using a combination of controls.

Welcome to SNAPLAPSE! A game of two halves

GAMEPLAY

STEP 1: pick a flower and launch the time-lapse video player which will create randomised patterns. Take a snap, or just tap the shuffle button to automatically generate a target pattern. Half of this pattern will then appear in the right side of the game screen.

TIP: the pattern will auto-play but you can still use the touch screen to interact with it. Subtract layers to simplify the pattern to help you get the hang of it. Tap the camera icon to create a target pattern.

Your goal is to match the pattern on the left side to the target pattern on the right side exactly to achieve a perfect 100% snap in the best time that you can.

STEP 2: using skill and observation use the controls to achieve a perfect snap by matching the left side to the right side of the screen.

You will need to observe and match the following four parameters:

  1. the layer count
  2. the relative positions of the layers
  3. the scale
  4. the precise point in the video timeline

To match the target pattern, use the following touchscreen gestures in no particular order:

  • Tap one finger to add layers
  • Tap two fingers to subtract layers
  • Slide to position layers. the pattern will invert symmetrically from the centre
  • Pinch and zoom for scale
  • Flick the 'scrubber' bar to find the correct point in the video clip

TIP: the scale, position and timeline adjustments can also be fine-tuned using the nudge controls.

When a perfect snap is achieved the screen changes to tell you that you have a 100% match!

Add the completed snap to your private gallery and share to challenge friends, or just try to beat your own time.

If you need a break just save an unfinished snap to your gallery and pick up where you left off to finish it later.

Happy Snaplapsing!
